In 2011, I collaborated with Juliana Sissons to create a number of digitally knitted fabrics. Juliana was the Fashion Designer in Residence at the V&A during 2010, and the fabrics were for her Couture Fashion Show in the V&A’s Medieval and Renaissance Galleries which took place in February 2011. Juliana’s designs were inspired by the armour in the museum’s medieval collection, and combined elastane with other fibres to produce firm but extensible fabrics.
The fabrics were translated into digital designs on a Shima Seiki design system and produced on a 12gge industrial knitting machine at the University of Brighton.
