Aldon Amos find

Last week I managed to find a really reasonably priced copy of Alden Amos Big Book of Handspinning: Being A Compendium of Information, Advice, and Opinions On the Noble Art & Craft. Such a great title!

It’s not a light read, but is a mine i8 of information, (and opinions). For example there are two pages (at least), about calculating grist and twist, which become quite hard to absorb. Compared to many other, more modern, books on spinning it has no coloured photos and the line drawings don’t always help the explanation. So you have to really have to study the text to understand what is being said.

I think this will be a book to keep close to my spinning wheel because it has so many useful insights into a wide range of topics. I’ve already littered it with stick-it notes for quick reference.
